Exercise 1: The New File Classification Infrastructure

Figure 1

In this lesson, you will install the File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) and the File Classification Infrastructure (FCI) sub-feature.

By using File Server Resource Manager, administrators can place quotas on volumes, actively screen files and folders, generate comprehensive storage reports, control the File Classification Infrastructure, and use file management tasks to perform scheduled actions on sets of files. This set of advanced instruments not only helps the administrator to efficiently monitor existing storage resources, but it also aids in the planning and implementation of future policy changes.

Part 1: Installing the FSRM and the FCI

  1. From the Start menu, point to All Programs Administrative Tools, and then click Server Manager.
  2. In the Server Manager console, expand the Roles entry in the tree on the left, and select the File Services entry:

  15. Enter localhost into the field labeled SMTP server name or IP address.
    Note:
The machine is not configured to run an SMTP server, but for the purposes of this tutorial, this will suffice. In a real world scenario a valid SMTP server should be used here.
  16. Enter student1@[YOUR-MACHINE-NAME] into the field labeled Default administrator recipients. Substitute [YOUR-MACHINE-NAME] with the actual name of your machine.
    Note:
You can easily find the name of your machine by opening a command prompt, typing hostname and then hitting Enter.
  17. Click OK to dispose of the options dialog.
