Reach more of the Office and SharePoint world audience

The Office Store accepts app listings in many languages and for many countries—that can mean more customers for the app you submit. Tailoring your app in advance to your customers’ languages and cultures can help make it more usable to more people.

When you submit your app to the Office Store, you get to choose which languages it supports. You can also give different descriptions and images for each language you pick, ultimately giving a customized UI and language experience for customers when they are browsing for apps in the store.

However, you should know up front that the validation process in the Office Store requires that your app is understood in the languages that you choose when you submit it. See 7.4 Apps listed in multiple languages must be easily identified and understood in Validierungsrichtlinien für an den Office Store übermittelte Apps (Version 1.8).

Design and build your apps to address cultural requirements for specific languages and markets

Your users can tell if you designed your app with them in mind. Your attention to culture and language creates empathy. Users who feel your app is designed for them are more likely to pay for it, use it long term, and provide you with valuable feedback to improve it over time.

Consider designing your apps for languages that Office or SharePoint already support

Have you used software or websites that have a mix of languages in their UI? It feels unprofessional, badly planned, and not world-audience ready. Unfortunately, this is what happens if your app targets a language different from the language version of Office or SharePoint that your user has installed.

Office and SharePoint are available in many languages, so it’s not always possible to provide a version of your app for every language. So think about the specific locales that you want your app to reach. Make the UI and experience as in sync with your user’s language version of Office or SharePoint as you can.
