impersonation

The ability of a thread in one process to assume the security identity and privileges of another process.

instance provider

A COM server that supplies instances of classes and implements methods of the IWbemServices interface to support data retrieval, modification, deletion, enumeration, or query processing.

intrinsic event

An event that WMI provides, which is a notification of a change in the standard WMI data model. For example, the creation of a new instance of Win32_Process is an __InstanceCreationEvent type of intrinsic event. Also see extrinsic event.

instrumentation

A mechanism used to report the status of system hardware and software. WMI implements instrumentation by modeling a system using classes based on the Common Information Model (CIM). WMI in the .NET Framework creates instrumented classes by adding attributes.
