DeviceInfo XML Schema

The DeviceInfo XML schema specifies the device's properties, such as device category and model name. On Windows 7 and later versions of Windows, Devices and Printers uses this data to show detailed information about the device.

A device metadata package must contain only one XML document that is formatted based on the DeviceInfo XML schema. The operating system uses the data from this XML document to install the package and reference its contents.

Note   The XML document must be saved by using UTF-8 encoding.

For the complete definition of the DeviceInfo XML schema, see DeviceInfo XML Schema Definition.

For information about the elements defined by the DeviceInfo XML schema, see DeviceInfo XML Elements.

For information about the data types that are defined by the DeviceInfo XML schema, see DeviceInfo XML Data Types.

For an example of XML data in the format that is defined by the DeviceInfo XML schema, see Sample DeviceInfo XML Data.

Note   The DeviceInfo XML schema is supported in Windows 7 and later versions of Windows.
