StringBuilder.MaxCapacity Property

[ This article is for Windows Phone 8 developers. If you’re developing for Windows 10, see the latest documentation. ]

Gets the maximum capacity of this instance.

Namespace:  System.Text
Assembly:  mscorlib (in mscorlib.dll)

public int MaxCapacity { get; }

Property Value

Type: System.Int32
The maximum number of characters this instance can hold.

The maximum capacity for this implementation is Int32.MaxValue. However, this value is implementation-specific and might be different in other or later implementations.

In the .NET Framework 4 and the .NET Framework 4.5, when you instantiate the StringBuilder object by calling the StringBuilder constructor, both the length and the capacity of the StringBuilder instance can grow beyond the value of its MaxCapacity property. This can occur particularly when you call the Append and AppendFormat methods to append small strings.
