Create or Delete a File Attachment in a Work Item

To share information that is relevant to the completion of a work item, you can attach a file to the work item. For example, you can attach, open, delete, and save files from work items, such as an e-mail thread, document, image, log file, or other file type.

You can add and delete file attachments by using the following Team Foundation clients: Team Web Access, Team Explorer, Office Excel, and Office Project. You can only attach files to one work item at a time. All file attachments are stored in the work item database for Team Foundation. When you add or delete a file attachment, your changes are applied to that database when you are working in Office Excel or Office Project. When you are working in Team Web Access or Team Explorer, your changes are applied to the database when you save the work item.

Note

If you are working in Office Excel or Office Project and you are not connected to Team Foundation Server, you cannot add or delete file attachments.

Required Permissions

To perform these procedures, you must be a member of the Contributors group or have your View work items in this node, and your Edit work items in this node permissions set to Allow. For more information, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.
