rotateX() function

Specifies a clockwise rotation by the given angle about the x-axis.

The angle by which to rotate the element about the x-axis. This value is expressed as a number followed by a supported angle unit.

Standards information


The rotateX transform function is the same as rotate3d(1, 0, 0, <angle>).


The following code snippet is an example of the rotateX function in use. When applied to a square blue div element along with the perspective function (which simulates depth), it has the effect illustrated in the image. (The light-blue square indicates the original position of the transformed element.)

div {
  transform: perspective(500px) rotateX(45deg);

A square blue div with white text, after having the following transform functions applied to it: -ms-transform: perspective(500px) rotateX(45deg);
