How to: Delete Relationships

Delete a relationship when you no longer want to relate columns in two related tables. When you redesign tables, it is often necessary to delete relationships and then recreate them after your new design is complete.

Note

The dialog boxes and menu commands you see might differ from those described in Help depending on your active settings or edition. To change your settings, choose Import and Export Settings on the Tools menu. For more information, see Visual Studio Settings.

To delete a relationship

  1. In Server Explorer, select the table involved in the relationship, and from the Database menu click Open Table Definition.

The table opens in Table Designer.

  2. From the Table Designer menu, click Relationships.

  3. In the Foreign Key Relationships dialog box, select the relationship in the Selected Relationship list.

  4. Click the Delete button.

    Note

When you delete a relationship, the relationship is deleted from the database when you save the table.
