Form Factors
Form factor describes the size of a device and its physical (hardware) components. This section provides guidance on bezel size and weight, buttons, and target resolutions for Windows devices. A small form factor is defined as having a display that is less than 10”.
A one size fits all approach does not apply to devices. More consumers are purchasing multiple devices (in multiple sizes) for multiple uses. Small form factors offer a lightweight, compact alternative to heavier devices. Users should not have to worry about “holding it right” or having hardware components and buttons within reach. The small form factor appeals to the user who wants the Windows experience in a compact package without the weight or footprint of a bigger device.
Because of its size, a device with a small form should not lessen the user experience, either. This means users will not have to relearn Windows and can unpack and explore.
