How to: Open a Database

After creating databases for access, you can use either Visual SourceSafe Explorer or Visual SourceSafe Administrator to open a database. Both programs use the same Open SourceSafe Database dialog box.

To close a database, you open another one. You can also quit Visual SourceSafe Explorer or Visual SourceSafe Administrator to close a database.

To open a database:

  1. In Visual SourceSafe Explorer or Visual SourceSafe Administrator, on the File menu, click Open SourceSafe Database.

  2. In the Open SourceSafe Database dialog box, note that the current database is highlighted in the list of available databases. If you see the database that you want, select it in the list.

  3. If you do not see the database you want, click Add. You are presented with the Add SourceSafe Database wizard, which you can use as described in How to: Add a Database.

  4. To make your database the default, select the Open this database next time I run Visual SourceSafe check box in the Open SourceSafe Database dialog box.
