Setup warns that it cannot find the recipient update service when preparing legacy Exchange permissions

This topic provides information about how to troubleshoot Exchange Server 2007 Setup if Setup gives the following warning for the enterprise recipient update service when you run Setup /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions: "Cannot find the Recipient Update Service responsible for domain 'DC=contoso,DC=com'. New and existing users may not be properly Exchange-enabled."

This warning is not able to recognize the enterprise Recipient Update Service. It only recognizes domain Recipient Update Services.

Resolution

To resolve the problem, make sure that you have run Setup /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions in each domain that has a domain Recipient Update Service. Make sure that the enterprise Recipient Update Service and any domain Recipient Update Services are functioning correctly. If you have run Setup /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions in each domain and have verified that the Recipient Update Services are functioning correctly, you can safely ignore this warning.
