Find Results Windows

Displays matches for text searches that were performed in the Find in Files dialog box. In addition, these windows can display replace results for replacement operations performed in the Replace in Files dialog box. You can display the Find Results 1 and the Find Results 2 windows from the Other Windows submenu on the View menu.

Double-clicking a search match in the Find Results windows automatically takes you to the appropriate file and line that contains the match. A symbol appears in the indicator margin of the editor, marking the line, and the caret appears at the beginning of the text. In addition, the status bar displays the full line of text that contains the match. Use F12 and SHIFT+F12 to rotate through the search matches.

Search Results

Search result sets include two lines of information summarizing the search conditions and search match statistics for the operation. The summary of search conditions appears at the top of the result set and the search match statistics appear at the bottom of the result set. For example, the summary information for a search of "var[1-3]&par" in all open documents using regular expressions could be as follows:

Find all "var[1-3]&par" Regular Expression, All Open Documents
Total found: 57 Matching files: 23 Total files searched: 59

Search matches include the following information:

  • Full path
  • File name
  • Line number
  • The text from the line containing the match

For example, two of the results from the search above might be:

c:\Projects\MyPrj1\MyClass.cpp(38):if var3=par then
c:\Projects\MyPrj2\MyClass2.cpp(12):while var1<>par
Tip   For a particularly large set of matches, you can reduce the matches by searching the results themselves.

Replace Results

Replace result sets include an entry for each line of code that was changed by the replacement operation and summary information about the replacements.

Two lines of information summarize the search conditions and replacement statistics for the operation. The summary of search conditions information appears at the top of the result set and the replacement statistics appear at the bottom of the result set. For example, the summary information for a replacement of "var[1-3]&par" in all open documents using regular expressions could be as follows:

Replace "var[1-3]&par", "sample", Regular Expression, All Open Documents
Total replaced:57 Matching files:23 Total files searched:59

Replacement results include the following information:

  • Full path
  • File name
  • Line number
  • The text from the line containing the match

For example:

c:\Projects\MyPrj1\MyClass.cpp(38):if sample then
c:\Projects\MyPrj2\MyClass2.cpp(12):while sample
