Tabs, CSS, Text Editor, Options Dialog Box

This dialog box makes it possible for you to configure whether tabs are inserted when you click Enter to add a line in the CSS Editor. You can choose to have all lines begin at the far left margin of the CSS Editor, or choose to let the editor enter enough tabs to place the point where the new line begins directly underneath the point where the previous line began.

To edit these options, select Options from the Tools menu to open the Options dialog box. In the left pane, expand the CSS folder under Text Editor, and then select Tabs.

Selections you set here take effect when you open .htm or.html files.

Indenting

None
When selected, no tabs or spaces are added at the beginning of a new line.
Block
When selected, tabs or spaces are added at the beginning of a new line within braces ( { } ). For example, if you indent a property and its value and press RETURN, the next line is automatically indented to create a block of code:

Smart
When this option is selected and the CSS Formatting Style option is set to Semi-Expanded or Expanded, the number of tabs or spaces automatically inserted at the beginning of a new line within braces ( { } ) depends upon the context. The following table describes how Smart Indenting functions. For more information, see Format, CSS, Text Editor, Options Dialog Box).
Context Result
Press ENTER after an opening brace ({) A new line is added with the insertion point tabbed over one stop past the point where the previous line began.
Press ENTER after something other than an opening brace A new line is added with the insertion point tabbed over underneath the point where the previous line began.
Insert a closing brace ( } ) preceded by optional white space characters The closing brace is aligned with the matching opening brace.

Tabs

Tab size
The distance between tab stops, measured in spaces. Tab size can range from one to sixty spaces; the default is four spaces. Each tab skips three spaces and inserts a tab character (ASCII 9) at the fourth location.
Indent size
Sets the distance to indent text automatically. Indent size can range from one to sixty spaces; the default is four spaces. When you also select Insert spaces, sets how many spaces are inserted at each click of the tab key.
Insert spaces
When this option is selected, the tab key inserts space characters (ASCII 32) instead of the tab character (ASCII 9). This can be helpful if you use external editors which set their tab stops at different intervals.
Keep tabs
When selected, the tab key inserts the tab character (ASCII 9).
