New for WPD Drivers
The Windows Portable Devices (WPD) platform for Windows 7 supports a new device-services model. A device service is an extension of the functional object that is supported in prior versions of WPD. Applications use service objects to discover device capabilities and to interact more efficiently with content. For example, an application can determine that a device supports contact synchronization by querying for a service object that implements the Microsoft Full Enumeration Sync Contacts Service. The application can then use this service object to locate all contacts that are stored on the device without having to search the entire storage hierarchy. For more information about the device-services model, see The WPD Driver Samples topic in Windows Portable Devices / WPD Programming Guide.
