New for Kernel Streaming Drivers

Starting in Windows 7, Windows Media Foundation (MF) represents AVStream-based media devices as user-mode Media Foundation Transforms (MFTs).

This feature enables hardware-based decoders, encoders, and video processors to be presented as individual MFTs in user-mode.

For more information on writing drivers with hardware codec support in Windows 7, see Hardware Codec Support in AVStream.
