Phone Image Designer: Setup

If you chose the option to Create a new Windows Phone image in the Getting started page of Phone Image Designer, you will see the Setup screen.

Before you can create an OS image, you must first set up Phone Image Designer. The information that you specify during setup is used to apply a predefined collection of settings to the phone image development environment.

To set up Phone Image Designer

  1. Confirm the locations for the hardware component drivers and the output:

    • Hardware component drivers - The location of the hardware component drivers that you’ve downloaded from the SoC vendor's portal. These component drivers contain the BSP and hardware component packages.

Phone Image Designer automatically detects the hardware component driver location if the %bsproot% environment variable is set. You can set this environment variable by running the set environment tool provided by the SoC vendor as part of the BSP kit. Alternatively, you can navigate to the location of the BSP.Config.xml file, which is located in the \<BSP_Kit_Install_Directory>\WP\Prebuilt folder. The BSP.Config.xml file defines all the necessary environment variables required by Phone Image Designer.

    • Output location - The location where you want to save the phone image and related configuration files for the image that you're building. You can return to this location later when you need to modify a previously built OS image.

  2. If you want to change either of the locations, click Change.

  3. (Optional) To save your settings so that you can continue later, click Save.

  4. After you have verified the locations, click Next.
