ItemCmdletProvider.InvokeDefaultAction Method (String)

Updated: April 27, 2016

Applies To: Windows PowerShell

Invokes the default action on the specified item.

Namespace:   System.Management.Automation.Provider
Assembly:  System.Management.Automation (in System.Management.Automation.dll)

protected virtual void InvokeDefaultAction(
	string path

Type: System.String

The path to the item to perform the default operation on.

Invoking the default action is similar to performing a double-click operation in Windows Explorer.

When implementing this method, the item operated on should be passed to the WriteItemObject method. The default implementation of this method does nothing.

This method defines provider-specific functionality for the Invoke-Item cmdlet. If this implementation of the cmdlet requires addition parameters, the provider must also call the InvokeDefaultActionDynamicParameters method.

For more information about providers, see Windows PowerShell Providers [ps].
