Cmdlets can define more than one parameter set; however, the cmdlet will use only one parameter set for a particular input. The parameter set used is determined by the unique parameter that identifies the set. For more information about parameter sets, see the "Parameter Sets" section in Cmdlet Parameters. Multiple parameter sets allow you to create cmdlets that perform different actions based on the arguments of the cmdlet parameter.

A parameter is added to a parameter set when the parameter is declared. For more information about adding a parameter to a parameter set, see Parameter Attribute Declaration.
