Providing General Ads

You can send the same advertisement to every connected client. This is illustrated by the following diagram.

This discussion assumes that the content provider has identified the required advertisements for the ad service provider (not shown) and that the ad provider has sent the ads to the content distributor. It is also assumes that the content provider has sent the appropriate playlist to the distributor. The steps in the following list correspond to the numbers in the diagram.

  1. The client connects to the content provider and requests a Web page.

  2. The content provider sends the Web page to the client. The page contains a link that references a playlist stored on a Windows Media server administered by a content provider.

  3. The client clicks the link and is connected to the content distributor.

  4. The content distributor streams the media elements identified in the playlist, including the ads, to the client.
