Ripping a CD

[The feature associated with this page, Windows Media Player SDK, is a legacy feature. It has been superseded by MediaPlayer. MediaPlayer has been optimized for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft strongly recommends that new code use MediaPlayer instead of Windows Media Player SDK, when possible. Microsoft suggests that existing code that uses the legacy APIs be rewritten to use the new APIs if possible.]

There are two ways to rip a CD by using the Windows Media Player control. Windows Media Player 9 can rip CDs by using IWMPPlayerServices::setTaskPane. Windows Media Player 11 introduces the IWMPCdromRip interface for ripping CDs. This interface provides more functionality than IWMPPlayerServices::setTaskPane, and it is recommended that you use IWMPCdromRip if it is available.

The following sections describe how to rip a CD by using Windows Media Player.
