XmlReader::ReadString Method ()

When overridden in a derived class, reads the contents of an element or text node as a string. However, we recommend that you use the ReadElementContentAsString method instead, because it provides a more straightforward way to handle this operation.

Namespace:   System.Xml
Assembly:  System.Xml (in System.Xml.dll)

public:
virtual String^ ReadString()

Return Value

Type: System::String^

The contents of the element or an empty string.

Exception Condition
XmlException

An error occurred while parsing the XML.

InvalidOperationException

An XmlReader method was called before a previous asynchronous operation finished. In this case, InvalidOperationException is thrown with the message “An asynchronous operation is already in progress.”

We recommend that you use the ReadElementContentAsString method to read the contents of an element or text node as a string.
