How to: Install and Remove Visual Studio Tools and Extensions

To install, remove, and manage Visual Studio extensions, use Extension Manager.

To install an extension

  1. On the Tools menu, click Extension Manager.

  2. In Extension Manager, in the left pane, click Online Gallery.

  3. In the middle pane, select the extension you want to add.

    You can filter the list by using the menus in the left pane.

  4. Click Download to install the extension.

To remove an extension

  1. In Extension Manager, in the left pane, click Installed Extensions.

  2. In the middle pane, select the extension you want to remove.

    Tip

    You can uninstall only those extensions that were installed on a per-user basis. You can't uninstall extensions that were installed on a per-machine basis, such as NuGet.

  3. Click Uninstall, and then click Yes to remove the extension.

  4. Restart Visual Studio.
