Share Work Items and Queries with Team Members

You can organize and share queries with your team by using folders and subfolders under Shared Queries. You can organize queries for your use under My Queries. For quick access, you can add queries to My Favorites or Team Favorites. You define and organize query folders and favorites from the Work Items page from either Team Web Access or Team Explorer.

Note

In Team Web Access, you can set permissions for queries and query folders. When you access queries and query folders by using Team Explorer, the permissions that you set by using Team Web Access are used for Team Explorer.

You can send the details about a particular work item, a list of work items, or a work item query by email to team members, clients, or other interested parties. Also, you can create hyperlinks to these items that recipients can open, view, save, and modify, provided that they have the necessary access and permission to Team Foundation Server.  See Share Work Items.

Work Item Queries and Favorites in Team Explorer
  • My Favorites: Queries in this area are visible only to you. Add queries that you frequently access to My Favorites.

  • My Queries: Queries in this folder are visible only to you. Add queries that only you are interested in to this folder. For example, you might create a query to find all active bugs that are assigned to you.

  • Team Favorites: Queries in this folder are visible to the team. Also, they are used to display a mini-dashboard of progress and quick access links on the Home page for your team in Team Web Access. Add shared queries that help your team track progress to Team Favorites folder. For example, you might add a query that tracks All Active Bugs or All Active Code Review Requests.

  • Shared Queries: Queries in this folder are visible to the team. Add queries to this folder that help team members track work and see progress. For example, you might create a query named All Active Work Items, which each team member may run.

Note

Queries, folders, and subfolders under My Queries, My Favorites or Shared Queries appear the same across Team Web Access and Team Explorer. However, queries added to the Team Favorites area in Team Web Access will appear differently than those added to Team Favorites in Team Explorer because the elements for these two areas are maintained as two separate lists for Team Web Access and Team Explorer.
