SortDirection Enumeration

Specifies the direction in which to sort a list of items.

Namespace:   System.Web.UI.WebControls
Assembly:  System.Web (in System.Web.dll)

Public Enumeration SortDirection

Member nameDescription
Ascending

Sort from smallest to largest. For example, from A to Z.

Descending

Sort from largest to smallest. For example, from Z to A.

The SortDirection enumeration is used to represent the direction in which items are sorted. It is commonly used by properties (such as the SortDirection property of the GridView class) to indicate the order in which items are displayed in a control.

The following code example demonstrates how to use the SortDirection enumeration to determine the direction in which the GridView control is displaying its items. The SortDirection property of the GridView control is tested for its value to determine the sort direction.

    Else

Message.Text = "Sorting in descending order."
