DetailsView.ItemInserting Event

Occurs when an Insert button within a DetailsView control is clicked, but before the insert operation.

Namespace: System.Web.UI.WebControls
Assembly: System.Web (in system.web.dll)

public:
event DetailsViewInsertEventHandler^ ItemInserting {
	void add (DetailsViewInsertEventHandler^ value);
	void remove (DetailsViewInsertEventHandler^ value);
}
/** @event */
public void add_ItemInserting (DetailsViewInsertEventHandler value)

/** @event */
public void remove_ItemInserting (DetailsViewInsertEventHandler value)

In JScript, you can handle the events defined by a class, but you cannot define your own.
Not applicable.

The ItemInserting event is raised when an Insert button within a DetailsView control is clicked, but before the insert operation. This allows you to provide an event handler that performs a custom routine, such as canceling the insert operation, whenever this event occurs.

A DetailsViewInsertEventArgs object is passed to the event handler, which allows you to indicate that the insert operation should be canceled. To cancel the insert operation, set the Cancel property to true. You can also manipulate the Values collection, if necessary, before the values are passed to the data source.

For more information about handling events, see Consuming Events.

The following code example demonstrates how to use the ItemInserting event to HTML-encode the values entered by the user before a new record is added to the data source.
