HtmlSelect::SaveViewState Method

Saves any HtmlSelect control view state changes that have occurred since the page was posted back to the server.

Namespace:  System.Web.UI.HtmlControls
Assembly:  System.Web (in System.Web.dll)

protected:
virtual Object^ SaveViewState() override

Return Value

Type: System::Object
The Object that contains the changes to the HtmlSelect view state. If no view state is associated with the object, this method returns a null reference (Nothing in Visual Basic).

The HtmlSelect control's view state is stored as a Triplet object. The First field of the Triplet object holds the HtmlSelect control's base view state. The Second field of the Triplet object holds the ListItemCollection collection represented by the Items property. The Third field of the Triplet object holds the selected indices represented by the SelectedIndices property. The SaveViewState method calls the base class's Control::SaveViewState method to save the control's base view state.

The SaveViewState method is used primarily by control developers extending the functionality of the HtmlSelect control.

Notes to Inheritors:

When overriding SaveViewState in a derived class, be sure to call the base class's SaveViewState method so that the HtmlSelect control's view state is properly managed.
