ControlParser.ParseControls Method

Note: This method is new in the .NET Framework version 2.0.

Creates an array of controls from the specified persisted string of code using the specified designer host.

Namespace: System.Web.UI.Design
Assembly: System.Design (in system.design.dll)

public:
static array<Control^>^ ParseControls (
	IDesignerHost^ designerHost,
	String^ controlText
)
public static Control[] ParseControls (
	IDesignerHost designerHost,
	String controlText
)
public static function ParseControls (
	designerHost : IDesignerHost,
	controlText : String
) : Control[]

Parameters

designerHost

An IDesignerHost that is the designer host for the page.

controlText

A string that represents a collection of persisted controls.

Return Value

An array of Control elements, parsed from controlText; otherwise, a null reference (Nothing in Visual Basic), if the parser cannot build the controls.

Exception typeCondition

ArgumentNullException

designerHost is a null reference (Nothing in Visual Basic).

- or -

controlText is a null reference (Nothing in Visual Basic) or an empty string ("").

The ParseControls method accesses the string representing the register directives on the Web Forms page using the services of the designer host. Designer host services are acquired through the ReferenceManager property of the RootDesigner object, or if that is not available, the IWebFormReferenceManager service.

The ParseControls method throws an exception, if the parser cannot build the controls from the controlText parameter.
