HttpCapabilitiesBase.SupportsRedirectWithCookie Property

Gets a value indicating whether the browser supports cookies on redirection.

Namespace:   System.Web.Configuration
Assembly:  System.Web (in System.Web.dll)

Public Overridable ReadOnly Property SupportsRedirectWithCookie As Boolean

Property Value

Type: System.Boolean

true if the browser supports cookies on redirection; otherwise, false. The default is true.

With UP.Browser 4.1 or UP.Browser 3.2, the Redirect method behaves as if the value of the SupportsRedirectWithCookie property of the HttpBrowserCapabilities object is false, unless the Cookieless property in the SessionState section of Web.config has been explicitly set to true.

In ASP.NET 1.1, the options for this setting were true or false, but with ASP.NET 2.0, the choices are expanded, and AutoDetect is now the default setting. If your Web application has the cookieless attribute of the <sessionState> section in the Web.config file set to a Boolean value, Redirect should work as expected for these browsers.

The following code example shows how to determine whether the browser supports cookies on redirection.

<%@ page language="VB" %>

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<script runat="server">
    Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
        CheckBrowserCaps()
    End Sub

    Function CheckBrowserCaps()

        Dim labelText As String = ""
        Dim myBrowserCaps As System.Web.HttpBrowserCapabilities = Request.Browser
        If (CType(myBrowserCaps, System.Web.Configuration.HttpCapabilitiesBase)).SupportsRedirectWithCookie Then
            labelText = "Browser supports cookies on redirection."
        Else
            labelText = "Browser does not support cookies on redirection."
        End If

        Label1.Text = labelText

    End Function 'CheckBrowserCaps
</script>
