Marshal.GenerateProgIdForType Method

Returns a programmatic identifier (ProgID) for the specified type.

The Type to get a ProgID for.

Return Value

The ProgID of the specified type.


Exception Type Condition
ArgumentException type is not a class that can be create by COM. The class must be public, have a public default constructor, and be COM visible.


If the type has a ProgID in the metadata, then it is returned. Otherwise a ProgID is generated based on the fully qualified name of the type.

Note   This method uses SecurityAction.LinkDemand to prevent it from being called from untrusted code; only the immediate caller is required to have SecurityPermissionAttribute.UnmanagedCode permission. If your code can be called from partially trusted code, do not pass user input to Marshal class methods without validation.
