OdbcParameter.DbType Property

Gets or sets the DbType of the parameter.

Namespace: System.Data.Odbc
Assembly: System.Data (in system.data.dll)

public override DbType DbType { get; set;
/** @property */
public DbType get_DbType ()

/** @property */
public void set_DbType (DbType value)

public override function get DbType () : DbType

public override function set DbType (value : DbType)

Property Value

One of the DbType values. The default is String.

Exception typeCondition

ArgumentOutOfRangeException

The property was not set to a valid DbType.

The OdbcType and DbType are linked. Therefore, setting the DbType changes the OdbcType to a supporting OdbcType.

For a list of the supported data types, see the appropriate OdbcType member. For more information, see Using Parameters with a DataAdapter.

NoteNote

Object is not supported by the Microsoft .NET Framework Data Provider for ODBC.

The following example creates an OdbcParameter and sets some of its properties. This includes the DbType property.

public void ExecuteStoredProcedure(OdbcConnection connection)
{
    OdbcCommand command = connection.CreateCommand();
    command.CommandText = "{ call MoneyProcedure(?,?,?) ";

    command.Parameters.Add("", OdbcType.Int).Value = 1;
    command.Parameters.Add("", OdbcType.Decimal).Value = 2;
    command.Parameters.Add("", OdbcType.Decimal).Value = 3;
