DataTableReader.GetFieldType Method

Gets the Type that is the data type of the object.

Parameters

ordinal
Type: System.Int32

The zero-based column ordinal.

Return Value

Type: System.Type
The Type that is the data type of the object.

ExceptionCondition
ArgumentOutOfRangeException

The index passed was outside the range of 0 to FieldCount - 1.

InvalidOperationException

An attempt was made to read or access a column in a closed DataTableReader .

Call the following procedure, passing in a DataTableReader instance in order to display a list of all the fields and the full name for each type in the Console window.

private void TestGetFieldType(DataTableReader reader)
{
    for (int i = 0; i < reader.FieldCount; i++)
    {
        Console.WriteLine(reader.GetName(i) + ":" + 
            reader.GetFieldType(i).FullName);
    }
}
