DataTable.Clone Method

Clones the structure of the DataTable, including all DataTable schemas and constraints.

Namespace:  System.Data
Assembly:  System.Data (in System.Data.dll)

public virtual DataTable Clone()

Return Value

Type: System.Data.DataTable
A new DataTable with the same schema as the current DataTable.

If these classes have been derived, the clone will also be of the same derived classes.

Both the Copy and the Clone methods create a new DataTable with the same structure as the original DataTable. The new DataTable created by the Copy method has the same set of DataRows as the original table, but the new DataTable created by the Clone method does not contain any DataRows.

The following example creates a clone of a DataTable object's schema.

private void GetClone(DataTable table){
    // Get a clone of the original DataTable.
    DataTable cloneTable;
    cloneTable = table.Clone();

    // Insert code to work with clone of the DataTable.
