ProtectedConfigurationProvider.Encrypt Method

Note: This method is new in the .NET Framework version 2.0.

Encrypts the passed XmlNode object from a configuration file.

The XmlNode object to encrypt.

Return Value

The XmlNode object containing encrypted data.

Notes to Implementers Override this method to perform custom encryption.

The following example shows how to use Encrypt to perform custom encryption.

// Performs encryption.
public override XmlNode Encrypt(XmlNode node)
    string encryptedData = EncryptString(node.OuterXml);

    XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument();
    xmlDoc.PreserveWhitespace = true;
    xmlDoc.LoadXml("<EncryptedData>" +
        encryptedData + "</EncryptedData>");

    return xmlDoc.DocumentElement;
