Convert.ToInt64 Method (Char)

Converts the value of the specified Unicode character to the equivalent 64-bit signed integer.

Parameters

value
Type: System.Char

The Unicode character to convert.

Return Value

Type: System.Int64
A 64-bit signed integer that is equivalent to value.

The following example converts each element in a Char array to a long integer.

Dim chars() As Char = { "a"c, "z"c, ChrW(7), ChrW(1023), _
                        ChrW(Short.MaxValue), ChrW(&hFFFE) }
Dim result As Long 

For Each ch As Char in chars
   result = Convert.ToInt64(ch)
   Console.WriteLine("Converted the {0} value '{1}' to the {2} value {3}.", _
                     ch.GetType().Name, ch, _
                     result.GetType().Name, result)
