How to: Get Details About Running Services Using MSSInfo.exe

MssInfo.exe, a tool that can help diagnose Speech Server problems, collects details about running services at any given time.
MssInfo.exe provides the following information:
- Registry entries and performance
- A snapshot of the Speech Server state
- Details about the current open sessions
- Details about the speech recognition (SR) and text-to-speech (TTS) engines and the grammars or prompts that are cached
Note
MssInfo.exe outputs information in an XML format and can be difficult to decipher without a viewer to show it in a more readable format. However, the information is useful to Customer Support Services (CSS) and there can be cases in which they ask you to run MssInfo.exe to better understand the current state of your system.
Warning
MssInfo.exe provides information about registry settings. By incorrectly editing the registry, you can severely damage your system. Before making changes to the registry, you should back up important data on the computer.
Running MSSInfo
To run MSSInfo
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
In the command window, browse to the AdministrativeTools folder, which is typically located in the Speech Server folder.
To display the details on your screen, type mssinfo.exe in the command window, and then click OK.
To send the details to a file, type mssinfo.exe??>filename.ext, and then click OK.
Supported file types include .txt and .xml.
At the prompt, type Y, and then press ENTER.
Note
This prompt can be avoided by using the /f switch. For example, type mssinfo.exe /f??>filename.ext.
