How to: Specify the Location for Speech Server Working Files

During call sessions, speech applications generate and temporarily store files (such as recordings of user speech) on the computer running Speech Server. By default, Speech Server creates the SpeechWorkingFiles directory in %TEMP% to store these files each time Speech Server starts. Only members of the local Administrators group and the NETWORK SERVICE account are permitted to access this directory.

Use the Speech Server Administrator console to specify a different location for the SpeechWorkingFiles directory. Choose a location on a disk partition that is large enough to handle the number of concurrent calls at peak volume. Estimate that you need approximately 50 MB for each concurrent call. When a call session ends, Speech Server removes the working files for that session so the directory never has to store more files than what is generated during peak call volume.

Note

After you specify the location of the working files, you must restart the Speech Server service to activate the change.

Specifying the Location of Working Files

To specify the location of Speech Server working files

  1. Open the Speech Server Administrator console.

  2. In the console tree, expand the applicable group, and then click Servers.

  3. In the details pane, double-click the applicable server.

  4. In the Working files location box, type the path for the directory in which you want to save Speech Server generated files.

  5. Click OK and if the Speech Server service is running, click OK again to confirm the message to restart the service.

  6. To restart the service, right-click the applicable server in the details pane, and then click Restart.
