Microsoft is committed to making its products and services easier for everyone to use. This topic provides information about the following features, products, and services that make Microsoft® Windows®, Microsoft® Windows NT®, and Microsoft Development Environment more accessible for people with disabilities:

Enlarging Toolbar Buttons

To enlarge toolbar buttons

  1. On the View menu, click Toolbars.
  2. Click Customize, and then select the Large Icons check box on the Options tab.

Enlarging Text in the Design Environment

To enlarge text in the Development Environment

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. In the Environment folder, select Fonts and Colors.
  3. Select the area of the development environment that you want to customize from the Show settings for list, and then set the font and size you prefer.

Customizing the Keyboard

The Microsoft Development Environment for Windows supports Dvorak keyboard layouts, which make the most frequently typed characters more accessible.

Rearranging Windows

Windows in the Microsoft Development Environment can be rearranged to best suit the way you work. You can select the windows you want docked by selecting the window and then selecting the Dockable option on the Window menu.

Customizing the Toolbox

To customize the Toolbox

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize Toolbox.
  2. In the Customize Toolbox dialog box, select or clear the check box next to the COM controls that you want to include or remove.

Providing Visual Cues while Editing Code

Margin Indicators in the Code window make it possible for you to provide visual cues to certain actions while editing your code. The Indicators appear on the left margin of the Code window.

To set the Indicator Margin

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. In the Text Editor folder, select General.
  3. Select or clear the check box next to Indicator Margin under the heading Display.

Adding Prompts for Methods and Parameters

You can choose to display pop-up windows in the Code window. The pop-up windows can prompt you with available members on the current object and the parameters to complete a function or statement. These pop-up windows can be helpful if you have difficulty typing. However, they do interfere with focus in the code editor, which can be problematic for some users.

To set prompts for methods and parameters

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. In the Text Editor folder, select the CSS folder, and then select General.
  3. Select or clear the check box next to Auto List Members and Parameter Information.
  4. Select the CSS Specific node in the CSS folder. Select or clear the check box next to Show statement completion popups and Show property description tooltips.
