Active Directory Addressing Objects

This content is no longer actively maintained. It is provided as is, for anyone who may still be using these technologies, with no warranties or claims of accuracy with regard to the most recent product version or service release. To enable Microsoft® Exchange Server to support a foreign address type, you must first create the following objects and attributes in Microsoft Active Directory®:

  • An Addr-Type object. This object includes an attribute that specifies the location of the proxy generation dynamic-link library (DLL) that generates proxy addresses for the address type. You must first create the proxy generation DLL if it does not already exist.
  • An Address-Template object for the Exchange System Manager. Administrators can then use the Exchange System Manager to create new contacts of this address type.
  • Per-message and Per-recipient attributes for messages sent to addresses of the foreign address type.
  • A data file, addressEntryDisplayTable, which describes the design of the dialog box displayed by the Address-Template object. This dialog box is used to create and edit addresses in the address format of the foreign system.
  • A data file, addressSyntax, which describes a program for validating the data entered into the address template dialog box and converting it into an address in the format of the foreign system.
