Source Code Control (Windows CE 5.0)

Send Feedback

Source code control systems enable you to track changes to source code files during software development. With Microsoft® Platform Builder you can use a source code control system with your development environment.

Some source code control operations require you to use the applications or properties of your installed source code control system. These operations include administrative tasks, such as the following:

  • Designating locations for master copies of files
  • Creating network connections
  • Setting permissions for drives and directories
  • Adding user information and permissions to the source code control system

In Windows CE 5.0, you can have more than one %_WINCEROOT% on a development workstation. This makes it easier to use a source code control system with Platform Builder to manage your source code.

To accomplish this, place a development workstation that has a full Platform Builder installation, including the tools and the OS, under source code control. This workstation becomes the central development workstation for your source code control system.

Then configure tools-only installations of Platform Builder on other development workstations to use the %_WINCEROOT% on the central development workstation as the target %_WINCEROOT% for workspaces. For more information, see Build Tab.

After the workstations are set up, you can use your source code control software with any of the tools-only installations to check files in and out of the %_WINCEROOT% on the central development workstation, and modify checked out files in Platform Builder.
