Testing Wireless Connectivity Using EAP-PEAP (Windows CE 5.0)

In this test scenario, you are connecting your CEPC to the access point using the PEAP authentication method.

To test wireless connectivity using PEAP

  1. Remove the PCMCIA adapter from the PCMCIA slot on your CEPC.

  2. To disable VMINI, perform the following steps:

    1. Choose Start, choose Settings, and then choose Network and Dial-up Connections.
    2. Right-click the VMINI1 icon, and then choose Disable. Do not disconnect your CEPC from PBHOST.
  3. Insert a wireless LAN adapter into the PCMCIA slot on your CEPC.

A dialog box titled with the name of your wireless adapter appears.

  4. From the list of available wireless networks and access points, choose CE8021X, and then choose Connect.

The Wireless Network Properties dialog box appears.

  5. From the Encryption dropdown box, choose WEP.

  6. From the Authentication dropdown box, choose Open.

  7. Check the checkbox for The key is provided automatically.

  8. Select the Enable 802.1X authentication on this network checkbox, and then choose PEAP as the EAP type from the dropdown list.

  9. Choose Properties.

  10. On the Authentication Settings dialog box, clear the Validate Server checkbox, and then choose OK.

Note   Unless you have enrolled your CEPC for a certificate, the Validate Server checkbox must be cleared. This is because TESTSERVER is not registered as a trusted authority with your CEPC until you have enrolled your CEPC for a certificate. For information about enrolling your CEPC for a certificate, see Enrolling the CEPC for a Certificate.

  11. Choose OK.

Your CEPC tries to associate with CE8021X. Once it is associated, the User Logon dialog box appears.

  12. Type the following information in the User Logon dialog box, and then choose OK.

    Item Value
    User name eappeap
    Password <password for Eappeap user>
    Domain TESTDOMAIN

The CEPC will try to authenticate to the server using the credentials you provided. The dialog box that is titled with the name of your wireless adapter displays the following messages:

    • Scanning
    • Associating with CE8021X
    • Associated with CE8021X
    • Authenticating to CE8021X
    • Authenticated to CE8021X
    • Connected to CE8021X

Once the connection has been established, the red mark on the network connection status icon in the taskbar disappears.

To verify that you have successfully connected to your network, launch the Web browser on your CEPC and type the IP address of the CE8021Xaccess point in the address bar. If you are connected to the network, the configuration page for the access point appears.
