Integrating a Windows CE .NET-based Platform

Platform integration is the process of combining all Windows CE .NET–based components and applications needed for your target device and adding them into the OS image for your device. OEMs and original device manufacturers (ODMs), system integrators (SIs), and device integrators (DIs) perform platform integration.

To integrate a Windows CE .NET-based platform

  1. From the Platform Builder New Platform Wizard, create a new platform.

For more information, see Platform Creation with the New Platform Wizard.

  2. From the Catalog, add or remove components to and from your new platform.

For more information, see Additions to a Platform.

  3. Configure the components.

  4. Import components and applications to your platform.

You can use the following Platform Builder tools to create and import new .cec files: CEC Editor, Export Wizard, and Catalog importer. For more information about these tools, see CEC Editor, Export Wizard, and Manage Catalog Features Dialog Box.

  5. Build your platform using either the command line or the IDE.

For information about how to build your platform using the command line, see Build Tool. For information about how to build your platform using the IDE, see Building a Platform.

  6. Roll a software development kit (SDK) using either the command line or the Export SDK Wizard.

For information about how to roll an SDK using the command line, see Exporting an SDK from the Command Line. For information about how to roll an SDK using the Export SDK Wizard, see Exporting an SDK.

  7. Debug, test, and diagnose your platform.

For more information, see Platform Debugging and Testing.

  8. If you have not completed adding or removing components to and from your platform, repeat steps 2 through 7.
