Speech Grammar Editor provides a graphical interface for creating and maintaining the rules that comprise grammar files.

To help grammar authors create rule definitions, Speech Grammar Editor uses drag-and-drop graphical elements that map to recognition functionality. In addition, Speech Grammar Editor is used to examine and make changes to any existing library of speech grammars.

Within the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 development environment, Speech Grammar Editor consists of the following elements:

  • The Rule Editor window graphically displays the contents of a grammar file (.grxml) file. Here, various elements of a grammar can be added, deleted, or modified.
  • Grammar Explorer displays the available grammar files and their component rules.
  • The Output window displays information about the results of any action related to the currently active grammar. This output can take the form of Semantic Markup Language that results from execution of a grammar, or it can simply be error message describing problems that may have occurred with the grammar.

In Solution Explorer, select Grammars, then open one of the .grxml files. When the file name appears in Grammar Explorer, opening any rule in the .grxml file activates the various elements of Speech Grammar Editor.
