Specifying Options for System Boot

  1. In the Install or Build and Install dialog box, click Boot Parameters.
  2. Select the appropriate action from the following:
    Debug reproducible errors.
    1. To load the debugger on the target at startup, select Debug.
    2. For Debug port, specify the communications port on the target system to use for debugging.
    3. For Baud rate, set the baud rate for the debug port on the target. The default baud rate is 9600.

      Note   Check that the serial cable connecting the target system to your development system is securely attached.
      The debugger becomes active when a kernel error occurs.
      The debugger becomes active when the system boots.
    Debug unpredictable kernel errors.
    1. To start a debugger when the target system fails, select Crash Debug.
    2. For Debug port, specify the communications port on the target system to use for debugging.
    3. For Baud rate, set the baud rate for the debug port on the target. The default baud rate is 9600.

      Note   Check that the serial cable connecting the target system to your development system is securely attached.
      The debugger becomes active when a kernel error occurs.
      The debugger becomes active when the system boots.
    Set maximum RAM for Windows NT to test for a bad memory chip. In the Limit physical memory detection to text box, enter the maximum MB available for Windows NT.
    Start the system in standard VGA display mode. To use the Standard VGA video driver while starting target system, select Use standard video driver, and then click OK.
    Detect missing device drivers. To display driver file names as they are loaded during boot, select Show device driver names.
    Disable serial mouse detection (reduces boot time). To disable automatic detection of serial mouse devices for all serial ports, click Disable serial mouse detection.
