Initial Setup Through Local UI

If you have an LCD and keypad on your server appliance, you should include the following information in your installation documentation for the end customer.

There are several local UI features you will find very useful when setting up the server appliance for the first time.

The following plug-in tasks are optional for your customers:

  1. Configure Network

This task is for the user to choose to either be a DHCP client or manually set up the IP address for the server appliance. When the server appliance boots up the first time, it defaults to be DHCP client. The user can use this local UI add-in task to change the server appliance's network setting to connect to other machines in their network. The following is the LCD screen design.

    Screen1: Keypad:
Auto IP address (The currently selected item has a check mark in front of it.)

    Static IP address

Arrow key will be used to select the item.
ENTER key will be used to confirm.
CANCEL key will be used to go back to Task page.
Screen2: (If Auto IP address is selected) Keypad:
IP address will be obtained from server automatically, OK? ENTER key will be used to confirm the change and go back to Screen1.
CANCEL key will be used to ignore the change and go back to Screen1.
    Arrow keys will be ignored.
Screen3: (If Static IP address is selected) Keypad:
IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx The current machine IP address

    Subnet mask:

    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx The current subnet mask

    Default gateway:

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx The current default gateway. 000.000.000.000 means no default gateway

LEFT and RIGHT arrow key will be used to select the digit.
UP and DOWN arrow will used to change the digit value.
ENTER key will be used to confirm the change. If no error is found, go back to Screen1. If there is an error, go to Screen4.
CANCEL key will be used to ignore the change and go back to Screen1. Ignore the selection of Static IP address as well.
    Screen4: Error-handling screen Keypad:
IP address entered is invalid. (If the IP address has a problem.)

Subnet mask entered is invalid. (If the subnet mask has a problem.)

Default gateway entered is invalid. (If the default gateway has a problem.)

    Arrow keys will be ignored.
ENTER or CANCEL key will be used to go back to Screen3.
  2. Set Host Name

This task is for the user to set or change the host name of their server appliance. The customer can later use this name to access the server appliance from the Web browser client. For more information, see Changing the Name of the Machine.

The following example shows the LCD screen design.

    Screen1: Keypad:
    Computer name:

    <Empty line>

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx A maximum of a 15-character name can be entered. "A" ~ "Z", space and 0~9 are possible characters.

LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys will be used to select character.
UP and DOWN arrow will used to change character value.
ENTER key will be used to confirm the change. If no error is found, go back to Task page. If there is an error, go to Screen2.
CANCEL key will be used to ignore a change and go back to the Task page.
    Screen2: Error-handling screen Keypad:
Host name entered is invalid. Arrow keys will be ignored.
ENTER or CANCEL key will be used to go back to Screen1.
  3. Reset Password

This task is for the user to reset the built-in administrator account password. After the user resets the password from the local UI, the account name will be reset to administrator and the password will be reset to ABc#123&dEF. A critical alert will be raised in both the Web UI and local UI. This critical alert signals the user to change the password immediately. This can be done from Web UI.
