Hardware Development Kit

When designing and building server appliance hardware and target operating systems for commercial release, follow the guidelines in the Microsoft® Windows® Powered Server Appliance hardware reference specification in your Microsoft Server Appliance Kit documentation. The server appliance hardware requirements include the following hardware:

  • Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI)-compliant power button
  • Windows Powered server appliance icons on your hardware

The following additional hardware is recommended to improve the user experience:

  • Local display and associated hardware driver
  • Keypad
  • Nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM)
  • Watchdog timer
