Extended Battery Life

Extended Battery Life

Overview of extended battery life.

Careful power management should be designed into your application. Actively monitor the power state of the computer, and choose different actions based on whether the computer is charging. For example, your application should wait until the computer is plugged in to run an automatic backup feature that moves many megabytes of data. This prevents the hard disk from draining the battery.

Do not build polling operations into your software. Instead, rely on notifications. This applies both to notifications from the operating system (such as registry and file system changes) and notifications within your software.
