Custom Router Deployment

SharePoint 2007

You can package and deploy your custom router using the Features deployment functionality. The Feature you create to deploy the router must do the following:

  • Install the router assembly to the global assembly cache.

  • Call the AddRouter method to register the new router with the record repository’s record series collection. This method takes the following parameters:

strName   The display name of the router, to be used in the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 user interface.

strAssembly   The name of the router assembly.

strClass   The name of the class to call within the router assembly.

For more information about packaging and deploying features, see Working with Features in the Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SDK.

After the router is registered, you can use it within any record routing type in the repository.

To specify a custom router for a given record series, on the Edit or New page for that record series, select the router from the Routers column of the record routing type list.

After you have specified a custom router for a given record routing type, the records repository invokes the router whenever a file of that record routing type is submitted through any mechanism, including the user interface, object model, and SMTP.
