How to: Create a Business Data Item Web Part for the Amazon Web Service System

The Business Data Item Web Part displays the Item of an entity instance from a business application registered in the Business Data Catalog. This procedure shows you how to use the Business Data Item Web Part to display the Item of a product with the given ID.

This procedure does not involve writing code. Before using this procedure, however, register the Walkthrough: Amazon Web Service Sample in the Business Data Catalog.

To add a Business Data Item Web Part that displays product Item by ID

  1. Open the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 page to which you want to add the Web Part.

  2. On the Site Actions menu, click Edit Page. The Site Actions menu is located on the upper-right side of the page, below the Advanced Search link.

  3. Click Add a Web Part in the zone in which you want to display the Web Part.

  4. In the Add Web Parts - Web Page dialog box, select Business Data Item, and then click Add.

  5. In the Business Data Item Web Part that is added, click Open the tool pane. (If you are prompted to click OK to navigate away from the current page, do so. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.)

  6. In the tool pane, click Browse, choose Item (AWSECommerceService), and then click OK.

  7. Type 0297843990 as the ID of the product you want to display.

  8. In the Fields section, click Choose. Select ASIN and DetailPageURL, and then click OK.

  9. Expand the Appearance section, and in the Title field, type Featured Product from Amazon.com in place of Business Data Item.

  10. Click OK at the bottom of the tool pane.

The new Business Data Item Web Part now displays a product from the Amazon.com Web site. You can click View Profile to view the default profile page.
