Lesson 2: Linking the Report to the Report Model
After you have created and published your customized clickthrough report, you must link it to the entity for which it will appear. In Report Manager, your report can be linked to the entity as a single instance or a multiple instance clickthrough report. If this report is used as the single instance clickthrough report, the report is displayed when the person reading the report clicks on a single instance of the entity. If this report is used as the multiple instance clickthrough report, the report is displayed when the person reading the report clicks on an aggregate value for that entity.
In this lesson, you will link the report that you created in Lesson 1 as a multiple instance to the Product entity in Report Manager.
To start Report Manager from a browser
Open Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later.
In the Address bar of the Web browser, type the Report Manager URL. By default, the URL is http://<ComputerName>/reports.
To link the report to the report model
Navigate to the AdventureWorks2008R2 model.
Double-click the AdventureWorks2008R2 model.
Select the Product entity.
The entity that you select here must be the same entity as the primary entity of the report that you created and modified in Lesson 1. For this tutorial, that is the Product entity.
Click the Browse buttonnext to Multiple instances report.
Because you want this customized report to appear when the person viewing the report clicks on an aggregate value in the Product entity, you must select Multiple instance. If you wanted the report to appear when the person viewing the report clicks a scalar value, such as the product name, you would select Single instance.
Select ProductClickthrough Report, and then click OK.
