How to: Write Execution Trace Messages to the SQL Server Agent Error Log (SQL Server Management Studio)

This topic describes how to configure Microsoft SQL Server Agent to include execution trace messages in its error log.

To write execution trace messages to the SQL Server Agent error log

  1. In Object Explorer, connect to an instance of the SQL Server Database Engine, and then expand that instance.

  2. Right-click SQL Server Agent, and then click Properties.

  3. On the General page, check Include execution trace messages.

Because this option can cause the error log to become large, set it only when investigating a specific SQL Server Agent problem.
